“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19

When does life begin? This is the question that is argued across the world. Pro-abortionist insist that the “blob” inside a mother’s womb, consisting of exactly 46 chromosomes (23 from the mother and 23 from the father), is simply a fetus. What many of them do not realize is that the word “fetus” is a Latin word that means “child”.

“Convenience abortions” have become common and doctors who once fought to save every life, now make the choice of taking a life. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. more than 50 million abortions have been performed in the US since 1973. Ask yourself, what would you do if you had a father with syphilis and a mother with tuberculosis who had 4 children? The first child was blind. The second child died. The third child was deaf and dumb. The fourth child had tuberculosis. Would you believe in aborting their fifth child? If you did, the world would never have been introduced to Beethovan.

The truth is that a woman’s womb has become a tomb… a hazardous site.. What do we do? We seek the truth from the Author of Life who hand-designed us all in His own image. The Bible says “We are His likeness and unique handiwork” (Psalm 139). Jesus values our existence. Because Jesus values life, so should we. King David says it this way, “For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb”. (Psalm 139:13)

Brenda “Poomie” Payne lives in Frostproof, FL. She is 50 years old and has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She cannot feed herself, bathe, or use the bathroom without assistance. Many Americans would have sent her to a nursing home or made the choice to abort her. Yet, Poomie loves singing “Jesus Loves the Little Children”. She loves to say “Amen” after prayer. She loves to listen to preachers on the radio, and if you ask this woman where her parents are, she points to heaven. She has the mind of a 3 year-old, but if you ask her who Jesus loves, she points to her heart. She is truly a beautiful and unique woman that God loves very deeply. Oh the joy she must bring to Jesus when she sings and prays. Brenda is not a mistake. Brenda is a masterpiece. You will find that human life is so precious…if you really take the time to look. Age is not a terrible thing like most people think. The elderly and the weak have opportunities to experience God’s power being perfected in their weakness.

Remember, Jesus, himself, spent time in the womb. Imagine if we could view the 3D images of baby Jesus in the womb. As Jesus grew up, His entire ministry revolved around “healing”. He did not come to take lives, but to heal them. Jesus is the Author of Life and we must “choose life” in all cases involving the weak (whether it be the children or elderly). George Washington Carver states “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.”

For those who have had abortions, remember that God loves us no matter what. Instead of letting your past  rob your joy, use your experience as a ministry for Christ. Volunteer with a pro-life group, join the 40 Days of Prayer, or make yourself available to those who may be struggling with this issue. Jesus died for all of us. Once we ask for repentance, it never crosses His mind again. Rest in that thought and speak that truth to Satan when he tries to consume your mind. Resist, and instead, choose life!
