In 2 Timothy 3, Paul gives us a “sneak peek” view of what to expect in “the last days”. It is like a movie trailer or a secret screening of what is to come. We have front row reserved seats. Free tickets to the show. The Doomsday Prepper’s extreme guide. This is one of Paul’s last books before his martyr and God purposely planned this book for all those who are truly watching for Christ’s return.
In this APB or BOLO disseminated worldwide, Paul warns “In the last days there will be very difficult times”. “For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.” Even if you are not a degree holding analyst, you realize that this describes much of our society today. 2 Tim 3:1-2.
“They will be unloving and unforgiving: they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.” This verse describes those that are centered only on themselves. It is unfathomable for them to put others before themselves. These are greedy, ruthless individuals, that have denied any part of God in their lives. They are their own gods. They deny every type of authority and follow no rules or order, thus instituting complete chaos or disorder. 2 Tim 3:3-4
“They will ACT RELIGIOUS, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! They are the kind who work their way into people’s homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires. (Such women are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth.) These teachers.. have depraved minds and a counterfeit faith. But they wont get away with this for long. Someday everyone will recognize what fools they are.” 2 Tim 3:5-8
This “doomsday prepper watch list” is quite interesting. It describes those we are to stay away from. It warns us of false teachers and ideas that promote lies. We are to be on guard against counterfeit teachers. This could be in the form of books, online, podcasts friends, or anything that pulls us away from the truth. If you are around someone who causes your mind to question the power of God, you are to flee far from them. Instead, build your faith on God’s Word, not on secular college philosophy. Not on spiritual enlightenment or Yoga mantras. NOt on trending topics or false teachers.
To truly see a counterfeit, we must compare it with the real document (The Bible). If what we are looking at is not consistent with God’s Word to the fullest extent, it is just that – a FAKE. Don’t walk around with a counterfeit faith. A washed up, faded, crumpled story of false belief that has seeped into the quietest corners of your heart. Stand up for truth and put on glasses that see. Ask God for strength to always follow the truth.
