Giving Thanks Daily

Psalm 25:7 “Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.”

November is a month of remembering and thanksgiving. We remember our vets and the sacrifice for our country. We remember the Pilgrims who came to America and founded this great country. In recent days, many people have committed to “Giving Thanks Daily” which is a public challenge to say thanks to God on Facebook for the rest of this month. This trend continues on Twitter as people across America thank God for breathing, friends, another day, dating, and love.

If you have a problem with coming up with ways to praise God, read the Psalms because it is a great example of “giving thanks daily” and can be a great guidebook for ways to thank God if you struggle in this area. We are all quick to pray to God during an emergency, but how many of us are just as quick to thank God when the emergency ends. Do we thank God if the emergency was not solved the way we wanted it to? God examines our hearts and knows the truth of whether we are indeed thankful.

We need to ask God for thankful hearts. David thanked the Lord for so many things, even after he finished a prayer. An example, “Lord forgive my youth, for you are good”. When David was feeling downcast he would pray “Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name”(Psalm 142:7). When David was fearful he’d pray, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.” David was a great example of prayer/praise fusion.

This month, read the Psalms and, like David, interject prayer and praise into your daily thoughts as much as possible. Learn to set your mind on things of God and that will help eliminate all the other negative and fearful thoughts. God loves you.

1.) What does David thank God for in Psalm 138:6?

2.) What is a prayer that you can also turn into praise right now?

3.) In Psalm 130:4, what does David thank God for?
