Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
She stood there frozen on the side of the pool. “Take your floatie off Mickey and jump”. She shook her head. As much as she trusted me, this seemingly fearless 5 year old was not about to slip out of her inner tube and jump into the unknown. What was she afraid of? I was a lifeguard for years. Several other adults were there to supervise as well. Yet, none of our negotiation tactics could convince her to jump without the safety of her flotation device.
Many of us understand this fear. We too, cling to what we can control. Mickey is smart enough to know that she is safe from drowning as long as she sticks to her pink inner tube. The thought of letting go is to much to bear. We too stand on the sidelines and watch everyone jump in. We want so bad to learn to swim on our own, but the familiar is much more comfortable.
Eleanor Roosevelt once said “Do one thing every day that scares you”. What many of us forget is that we have a Savior who gave us a promise. He tells us to not worry because He is always with us. Even in the deepest waters, he tells us that He will “uphold us with his right hand”. We can rest in that promise because God is truth. Today, do not let fear hold you back. Take off your safety float and jump.
Plan of Action
1.) What are you afraid of?
2.) What is one fear today that you can face?
3.) Pray today and ask God to overcome those fears
