We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

People don’t like me. I am overweight. I’m unattractive. I’m a bad father. I’m not good at school. My teacher does not like me. I cant. I’m too afraid. Others think I am ugly. I’m broken. I’m not good enough. All these sayings are lies that people tell themselves every day. They are untruths that over the years can become the broken beat of our hearts. We begin to believe these untruths. We begin to believe that everyone, to include our family and friends, also believe these untruths about ourselves.

You know what Jesus calls you? He calls you anointed, beloved, loved, his ancestry, His image, his children, family,  fearfully and wonderfully made,  chosen.. Jesus calls us chosen. The “chosen” threaten Satan so he does not glamorize our true status as believers. Instead, Satan wants us to be preoccupied with everything we are not. We are not on the cover of Teen Magazine. We are not a prolific author. We are not a movie star. We are not millionaires.  Since the Garden of Eden, Satan has kept humans fixated on what they are not and what they do not have. Satan focused on letting Eve know that she was not a “god”, neglecting to tell her that she was a “child of God”. Satan marketed the one tree Eve could not eat, neglecting to advertise the hundreds of trees she could enjoy. Satan’s entire “marketing strategy” is to keep Christians and non-Christians focused on what they are not and what they don’t have. This strategy can successfully cripple Christians.

How can we fight these army of lies that march through our minds and into our hearts? How can we combat the hurtful untruths we believe about ourselves? Speak the truth. Out Loud. Quote Scripture to the lies we say in our hearts. When we tell ourselves that we cannot do something or we are too afraid, speak God’s Word. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear” I John 4:18.

When we think we are unloved, we quote Ephesians 2:4-5 “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)”.

A popular music group right now sings a song called “Royals” with these words. And we’ll never be royals (royals). It don’t run in our blood, That kind of luxe just ain’t for us. We crave a different kind of buzz.

When we look at our lives and begin making comparisons, we will fall into the trap of discontent. This is a wonderful trap to Satan because jealousy and the lack of contentment can take years to untangle.  Jeramiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” We are not hopeless failures. We are not regrettable mistakes. Change your thinking this week. Remember, we are chosen.. We are #Royals
