What You Didn’t Know the Bible Says About Whisper and Other Secret Apps

Whisper and similar anonymity or “secret” apps are on the rise across the nation as kids and adults have preferred texting anonymously. The apps provide almost a 10x’s faster texting service as well as pictures and snaps that self-destruct after 30 seconds, leaving them almost untraceable. It’s amazing what happens on the dark net while nobody appears to be looking. Lest we forget, someone is looking. There is no anonymity with God. He peers over our shoulders as we hit the buttons and push send. Though we can erase messages from our devices, we cannot erase them from our hearts. We may push out or respond to a “whisper”, when no one is looking, but remember that our Creator knows and sees all of our secrets. We can send a message through Kik, but we can never kick God from the view of our screen. This is something to ponder before we push send.

Alexander Graham Bell’s invention has come a long way. He was a Boston professor whose girlfriend was leaving for a visit to Philadelphia when he decided, last minute, to go with her. While there, he discovered that the city was hosting an event for showcasing inventions. So, of course, Professor Bell brought his. He was given a small corner, out of the way, for his invention with little attention gathering at his booth. It wasn’t until an influential visitor from Brazil, who recognized Bell’s work with the deaf, that his invention was really noticed. Bell grabbed part of his device and ran out of the room. Using electrical current, Bell spoke to the judge “Come here. I want to see you” and landed first place at the  Centennial Exhibition  show. Just like that, his invention became life changing and continues to impact us today.

Phones are a mysterious thing and the Bible does not specifically use the word “phone”, but it does speak about our speech. Phillipians 4:8 ‘Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”. What we think, is what we type. It’s a heart issue. Jesus has something to say to online bullying as well in Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

This week, let’s think before we type. Our words are so powerful and can be used in great ways. Don’t squander the opportunity to share the good news to becoming occupied with allowing our hidden “whispers” to be used for evil. God loves you today so confess to Him all of the sinful acts we do with this special invention he has allowed for us.
